The Data Access Portal has information in 3 columns. An outline of the content in these columns is provided above. When first entering the search interface, all potential datasets are listed. Datasets are indicated in the map and results tabulation elements which are located in the middle column. The order of results can be modified using the "Sort by" option in the left column. On top of this column is normally relevant guidance information to user presented as collapsible elements.
If the user want to refine the search, this can be done by constraining the bounding box search. This is done in the map - the listing of datasets is automatically updated. Date constraints can be added in the left column. For these to take effect, the user has to push the button marked search. In the left column it is also possible to specific text elements to search for in the datasets. Again pushing the button marked "Search" is necessary for these to take action. Complex search patterns can be constructed using logical operators and phrases embedded in quotation marks. Logical operators include AND, OR and NOT. Remember to add space around operators. Text strings that are not quoted are trated as separate words and will match any of the words (i.e. assuming the OR operator). E.g. in order to find WMO synoptic weather station data from Verlegenhuken use the search phrase: [synop AND verlegenhuken]. Searches are case insensitive.
Other elements indicated in the left and right columns are facet searches, i.e. these are keywords that are found in the datasets and all datasets that contain these specific keywords in the appropriate metadata elements are listed together. Further refinement can be done using full text, date or bounding box constraints. Individuals, organisations and data centres involved in generating or curating the datasets are listed in the facets in the right column.
Collections
Collections allows the user to search in subsets of the existing catalogue. The collections are primarily data management projects that have been incorporated in the ADC catalogue after the project has ended. In this context the ADC is the long term access solution for these data. The collections currently served through ADC include (datasets may belong to multiple data collections):

Physical oceanographic observations were conducted during the Icebreaker Shirase to describe the oceanic watermass properties off Cape Darnley, East Antarctica. Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth (CTD)/ Rosette Multi-Sampler (RMS) observations were completed during February 2001 to February 2020. SBE19/SBE55 ECO Water Sampler system of Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc. was used.
We conducted mooring observations with acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs) and conductivity-temperature (CT) recorders inside the Cape Darnley polynya throughout winter for the first time. Two moorings were deployed near the shore (a1: bottom depth 183 m) and the shelf edge (a2: bottom depth 270 m). Each mooring was equipped with an Ice Profiling Sonar (IPS: ASL Environmental Sciences, IPS4 420 kHz), an upward-looking acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP: RD Instruments Workhorse Sentinel 300 kHz), and conductivity-temperature recorders (CT-recorders: SeaBird SBE-37 MicroCAT) from the top. The ADCPs at a1 and a2 measured the volume backscatter strength (SV) in addition to the current velocity for 9 and 10 layers of bin, respectively, with the 8 m interval. The pre-deployment calibration demonstrated a temperature accuracy of 2 mK and a salinity accuracy of 4 X 10-3. ADCP and CT-recorder depths were calculated from the pressure by the IPS pressure sensor and the tilt measured by the ADCP with an assumption that the mooring line was straight. In this region, the iceberg tongue in the east creates a risk of an iceberg attack on the moorings. In fact, the mooring at a2 was attacked by an iceberg twice, which was recorded by the pressure sensor as rapid dives. Fortunately, both moorings survived for one year.
This dataset was obtained using PV Soya in the southern Sea of Okhotsk in February 2010, in collaboration between Japan Coast Guard and Hokkaido University to monitor the ice conditions associated with the global warming and improve our understanding of sea ice processes. The dataset is composed of the meteorological data (surface air pressure, air temperature, vapor pressure, and winds) recorded on board at an interval of one minute, the ice thickness data measured with a video system, and hourly visual observation records conducted according to the international ASPeCt protocol. The data format is available in the file, named Readme_soya_2010.docx.

Marine geological sampling points with associated information on grain size composition of sediments in the upper part (about 0-40cm) of seabed. Samples are obtained with grab or box corer and geological descriptions are based on visual observations of sediments.
