The sediment cores were collected from 3 holes using the advanced piston corer onboard RV Joides Resolution from site U1534 between 29/03/2019 and 02/04/2019. Suitable specimens of benthic foraminifera were identified and picked from the >250 micron size fraction sediment at BAS between March 2020 and May 2021. Isotope analysis was carried out between March-August 2021.

Abstract:
The main goal of our proposal is to characterize the surface radiative budget as well as cloudiness which features at the Argentine Bases Marambio and Belgrano II during the YOPP-SH Special Observing Period (SOP) as well as the YOPP Consolidation Phase. Specific objectives to secure our main goal during the SOP will be:
1 - develop a compact Radiation Measurement UNIT (RMU) robust enough to allow continuous measurements in harsh environment through which to make shortwave, longwave observations as well as to record status of the sky.
2 - secure UV measurements at both stations.
3 - develop specific tools to analyse on a daily basis (weakly for clouds) collected data and extract parameters of interest. For radiation these will include QA/QC SW and LW downwelling and upwelling fluxes, diffuse and direct components of solar radiation, UV spectral flux and doses. For clouds these will include, on a continuous base, cloud fraction derived both from radiometric measurement and sky camera observations, cloud type and cloud effect on SW radiation. In addition cloud base (or cloud ceiling) will be obtained by routine observations performed at the two stations. From UV measurements columnar ozone content will be also derived.
Moving forward to YOPP consolidation phase, we plan to:
1 - extend dataset and its analysis, start to collect information on seasonal and inter-annual variability, determine Cloud radiative Forcing (CRF)
2 - perform extensive comparison between automatic and visual cloudiness observation methods. They being very useful to better understand quality and value of historical datasets at the two stationsù
3 - make comparison with cloudiness regime of Ross Sea and Antarctic Plateau. Make similar comparison for UV fluxes in the Peninsula and at Concordia.

Abstract:
This is a collection of observations from several moored buoys in the Norwegian archipelago and fjords. The buoys measure wind and waves as well as currents, temperature and salinity at several depths in Halsafjord, Sulafjord and Vartdalsfjord and at an offshore location (winter 2019/2020). Both high-frequency recordings of 0,5 - 2 Hz and 10 - 20 minute mean values are provided. The data collection is co-located with the data collection Meteorological Observations in tall masts for the Coastal Highway E39 project in Mid-Norway ( https://adc.met.no/datasets/10.21343/z9n1-qw63 ). The first buoys were deployed October 2016 and the campaign will continue until at least 2024. The dataset is publicly available.

Abstract:
Adventdalen is a medium-sized (513 km2) catchment in continuous permafrost zone of central Spitsbergen. It has 11.7 % glacier cover, a large flat valley floor comprised of uplifted, glaciomarine sediments, covered in the lower part by a veneer of aeolian sediments up to 4 m thick. The geology of the catchment is dominated by sandstones, shales and carbonates. Freshwater samples were collected typically every second day throughout the principal runoff season (late May until early September) during 2015 and 2016 from a downstream site located at the head of the delta. Analysis of major ions (by ion chromatography) and minor constituents (trace metals by icpms and silica by colorimetric analysis).

Abstract:
Adventdalen is a medium-sized (513 km2) catchment in continuous permafrost zone of central Spitsbergen. It is an important study area, but the river is highly unsuitable for monitoring runoff on account of the high sediment yield and extremely unstable channel sections in the large delta. This necessitates the estimation of runoff volume through the application of a suitable model. Daily runoff was therefore simulated using daily precipitation and temperature data series (1991-2016) and the HBV model. Daily water temperature and electrical conductivity were also monitored at the point of interest to provide basic water quality parameters alongside the runoff quantity data.

Abstract:
Adventdalen is a medium-sized (513 km^2) catchment in continuous permafrost zone of central Spitsbergen. It has 11.7 % glacier cover, a large flat valley floor comprised of uplifted, glaciomarine sediments, covered in the lower part by a veneer of aeolian sediments up to 4 m thick. The geology of the catchment is dominated by sandstones, shales and carbonates. There are a series of five open system pingos that have formed in the valley floor following uplift of the valley bottom over the last 10000 years. This has caused permafrost aggradation in former marine sediments which are up to 60 m thick. During the formation of this new permafrost, high pressure caused expulsion of groundwaters below, resulting in their upward migration. Freezing of the groundwaters as they reached the ground surface caused expansion and thus formation of the pingo. However, freezing no longer occurs at four of the five pingos, meaning that the groundwaters now discharge at the surface. Samples of the emerging groundwaters were collected every March/April, but also opportunistically during summer months, provided the sites weren''t flooded. Analysis of major ions (by ion chromatography), minor constituents (trace metals by inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS) and silica by colorimetric analysis) and gases (O2, CO2 and CH4) were undertaken.

Abstract:
This is a collection of high-frequency observations of wind speed and wind directions in several tall masts for the Coastal Highway E39 bridge project in Mid-Norway. The masts are 50-100 m high and located in complex terrain near the shoreline in Halsafjorden, Julsundet and Storfjorden in the Møre og Romsdal county of Norway. Observations of the three-dimensional wind vector are done at 2-4 levels in each mast, with a temporal frequency of 10 Hz. Both 10-minute mean of filtered 10 Hz (raw) data as well as the filtered 10 Hz recordings are provided. The dataset is corroborated with observed profiles of temperature at two masts, as well as precipitation, atmospheric pressure, relative humidity and dew point at one site. The first masts were erected in 2014 and the campaign will continue to at least 2024. The dataset is publicly available.

Abstract:
The ACS_Bayelva_class dataset contains 302 high-resolution binary snow cover images that were obtained by classifying orthrorectified photographs of a 1.77 km^2 area of interest in the Bayelva catchment. This catchment is close to Ny-Ålesund, the northernmost permanent civilian settlement in the world and a major hub for polar research, in the Norwegian high-Arctic Svalbard archipelago. The imagery has a (roughly) daily temporal resolution and a ground sampling distance (pixel spacing) of 0.5 m. The dataset spans 6 snowmelt seasons, covering the months May-August for the period 2012-2017. The orthophotos were obtained by processing oblique time-lapse photographs taken by a terrestiral automatic camera system (ACS) mounted at 562 m a.s.l. near the summit of Scheteligfjellet (719 m a.s.l.) a few kilometers west of Ny-Ålesund. The orthophotos were manually classified into binary snow cover images (0=no snow, 1=snow) by iteratively selecting a (visually) optimal threshold on the intensity in the blue band for each image. More details are provided in the study of Aalstad et al. (2020) [a copy is available in this repository] where this dataset was created. The ACS was maintained by scientists from the group of Sebastian Westermann at the Section for Physical Geography and Hydrology in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway.
